What is going on at AUGI?
What is going on at AUGI?
Elections to replace outgoing Board of Director positions were held recently and none of candidates received the necessary two-thirds affirmation votes needed to elect them into position. This left a few seats on the board vacant. According to the bylaws, vacancies (other than President and Vice-President) shall be filled by appointment by the President.
In this particular case, the President chose to extend the terms of the outgoing board members until a new election can be held. No announcement regarding this new election has been made.
The fact that none of the previously screened candidates were affirmed seemed a bit strange, and apparently it has never happened before. This led to discussion regarding AUGI's split from SolidVapor, its former service provider, back in August.
AUGI initially said that this relationship was dissolved mutually, but later admitted that Solidvapor resigned the contract. At least one board member says that SV was entering into contracts with other parties that were in conflict of interest to AUGI, yet maintains that AUGI did not initiate the breakup. Some members are questioning whether AUGI was demanding too much from SV for the return value.
Whatever the cause, apparently this decision has left a bad taste with some voting members, possibly having an impact on the recent elections.
Lastly, apparently SV is still in control of the AUGI website, including the forums. Yesterday, after a brief outage of the AUGI website, the President made an announcement warning members that the "current provider" is threatening to shut down the AUGI website(s) for good.
There are many more opinions and theories floating around on the status of AUGI and effect of the breakup of AUGI and SV (see the links below), including an announcement of the AUGI Reform Party, which has been created to "allow the members to make an informed decision about the future of the organization"
What is next? We are waiting to see...
