MapExport to SHP creates empty file in Civil 3D

If you are a Civil 3D user and you are trying to create a SHP file using the MapExport command, it may fail depending on the entity types you are trying to export. As I found over at the Paving the Way blog, this is a bug in Civil 3D.

To fix this, you need to download a new [.ini] file as instructed in this Autodesk KB article (TS1108047)

Importing SHP Polygons

If you are importing ESRI SHP files that contain closed objects using the MAPIMPORT command, and you end up with filled MPOLYGON objects instead of plain old closed polylines, read on....

First, you can instruct MAP to import closed polylines instead of MPOLYGONs by running the MAPUSEMPOLYGON command and setting the value to OFF. If you do want MPOLYGON entities, but you don't want them filled, run the POLYDISPLAY command and choose Edges only. Be sure to REGEN after running this command.
