Design Review

As we mentioned here back in September, Autodesk Design Review is being discontinued. Autodesk Labs program manager Scott Sheppard confirmed this again yesterday, along with a notice that Autodesk Freewheel will be shutdown on January 31, 2014. You can read Scott's post in the Autodesk forums here. Read more about The end of Autodesk Freewheel

Autodesk has decided to discontinue Design Review, according to Autodesk Labs program manager Scott Sheppard, in this thread in the Autodesk Design Review user forum.

The current Design Review downloads will continue to be available for some time, but according to Scott, it "will eventually be replaced by Autodesk 360".

This is an update to an earlier post regarding Design Review 2012.

The normal download link is just a small file that runs locally and then downloads the rest of the application at run time. If you would like to download the entire package including DWG Trueview for later deployment, the direct link is http://download.autodesk.com/akdlm/esd/dlm/designreview/2012/en-us/SetupDesignReview2012_bundle.exe. This is ±662 MB download.

While you are waiting for that to download, take a look at the installation guide for information on silent installs. Read more about Autodesk Design Review and DWG Trueview 2012

Autodesk Design Review 2012 is now available for download here.

Options include downloading DWG Trueview also (needed to convert DWG to DWF), and the Design Review Browser Add-on. Please read the README file, and the other documentation. Note there are instructions available for deploying Design Review to multiple machines. Read more about Design Review 2012 is now available

If you want to download the complete package containing DWG Trueview 2011 and Design Review 2011, and you don't want to wade through a dozen or so different web pages, etc., then here is a direct link.

Autodesk Design Review is an application for viewing, markup, and printing of DWF files. If you have DWG Trueview installed also, you can "open" DWG files with it. Actually, what it does is use Trueview to open the DWG and plot it to DWF using the last saved plot settings.

Best that I can tell, you have two options for getting this application

Now that Autodesk has made Design Review available for free, you may be wondering, "do I need this?", "what is it?", "what does it do?", "why is it all of a sudden free?", "where can I get it?", etc.

I found an excellent review of this product at "Stress Free" that should answer all those questions and more.
