Autodesk physical media shipments no longer free

In an email we received from Autodesk today, it was announced that “Autodesk will no longer ship physical software—free of charge—to Maintenance Subscription customers in US and Canada.

Also announced was “Effective September 29, 2014, physical shipments will be available for purchase for $30 US each (costs include standard shipping).

Personally, we prefer a physical shipment so we don’t have any download hassles and so that we always have a copy on physical media. What is your stance?

I’m in the UK and always opt for the USB media for the reasons stated. No doubt this policy will find its way to the rest of the world…..

I think it’s pretty stupid that we pay $15000 A YEAR for subscription and won’t get a “free” physical copy? Really Autodesk? My little $30 is going to dent you that bad? I think it’s bull. A smarter PR move on their part would be to leave it alone and raise the price. Then no one notices and it doesn’t piss anyone off.

I like that I can have my software the day that it is released. The installation files are stored on the network, so I dont have to worry about the media.

You pay 9K per license for AIM, send at least one frik’n free media. Really $30. That’s major BS.
